About us. . .

Connect Local Digital Signage Network began life as Billy Brown Signs. Here's the story so far. . .

Billy started signwriting on the 30th Aug 1981. With an advert in the Banffie, a couple of brushes and a few tins of enamel he set out to letter an Escort van near Netherdale. Originally based in Macduff he moved to the Cornhill area in 1985, then Portsoy in 1989, finally settling in Foggie (aka Aberchirder) in 1995, specialising in the traditional signwriting of vehicles, shops, signboards, windows etc.

Technology moves on and in 1992 Billy and his wife, Lillian, were quick to invest in the incoming computer-cut vinyl which, although new at the time, was destined to render the old craft of brush signwriting all but obsolete. Although many of his customers were at first apprehensive about the durability of 'stickers', he managed to convince them, losing only one reluctant traditionalist who refused to believe!

The business grew, employing several others along the way forming a good working team - delivering quality, value and personal service from Inverness to Aberdeen - even supplying a mail order service as far away as Shetland! Customers along the way have included Kildonan Macbrayne, Mackies Dairies, Seaway Net Co, HG McBain, The Real McKay, Ravenhill, WM Murray, Simpson's Coaches, Cheyne's Coaches, Maynes Coaches, Deveron Coaches etc. etc. . .

Then came the technology for full colour computer-printed vinyl graphics and illuminated signage, and of course the widespread use of the internet - leading in 2001 to Billy Brown Signs & Web Design, incorporating the design and maintenance of local small business websites, which continues to this day.

Again with an eye to the future, Billy has now entered the exciting new digital signage arena. Controlled centrally via the internet this involves the siting of digital monitors in high foot-traffic areas such as takeaways, convenience stores, forecourts, and waiting rooms throughout the North East, providing effective, low-cost local advertising for the digital age and reaching the parts that newspapers are no longer so effectively able to reach - the screen generation!

Thanks for listening!
